Ok, so the time has come for me to update my wetpaint profile. At the moment, I have a lot of profiles, because I have a lot of wikis. No doubt there are people who have ore wikis than me, but, as I do not know them, they can hardly be said to count. For the above reason, I would like to take this opportunity to apologise if this profile does not seem to be in keeping with what this wiki is about. I am a part in lots of wikis, ranging from a teenage book club, which is one of the biggest in wetpaint, to a small, private site about taking over the world, revolution, etc. I could personalise each profile to match the site, but I really cannot be arsed. It would be far more trouble than it is worth. At least this way, things remain constant.

I am thechildrenoftherevo, well, obviously that’s not my real name, but it is my wetpaint username. It comes from my email address, which is thechildrenoftherevoluion@googlemail.com. Yes, I use Google mail, the best damn email there is, without a doubt. There is no reason for me to tell you this, other than I thought that it might help you understand me a bit. I like it because I never have to delete an email, and I can find anything, instantly. That’s the kind of person that I am.

Most people call me child. I don’t mind, as long as it is clear that it is me you are talking to, it does not really make a lot of difference.

music Is very important to me, and I have a very eclectic music collection. Everything from hard core trance, to ELO, by way of The Zutons; Franz Ferdinand; Feeder; Peter, Bjorn and john; Coldplay; Blur; Flogging Molly; David Bowie; Editors; Faithless; Jarvis Cocker, KT Tunstal; the Kooks; the Kinks; The Who; the Beatles; Keane; Jeff Wayne; the Kaiser Chiefs; Mike Oldfield; Muse; and of course, Pink Floyd. I know that a lot of people like the Floyd, and that it may be seen by some as a bit of a cliché, but so what? If I like it, then what does it matter what other people think? People like to “have a go” at me for not using an I-Pod, but I think that this is hardly fair. I so have a 30 GB Creative Zen Vision M, which does everything that an I-Pod does, but also has a radio; a microphone; and a wider range of format support, allowing me to use a wider range of formats with ease. It also allows me to listen to the nation’s favourite radio station, BBC Radio 2, and also Radio 4, on occasion. I would have to say that by far the best Floyd has to be Wish You Where Here. It speaks to me in a way that no other music can.

so, so you think you can tell
heaven from hell
blue skies from pain
can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail
a smile from a veil
do you think you can tell
did thy get you to trade
your heroes for ghosts
hot ashes for trees
hot air for a cool breeze
cold comfort for change
did you exchange
a walk on part in the war
for a lead role in a cage

how I wish
how I wish you were here
we're just two lost souls
swimming in a fish bowl
year after year
running over the same old ground
and have we found
the same old fears
wish you were here

I also like films. My favourite film of all time (so far), has to be the amazing V For Vendetta. It is a magnificent film, as it shows that the little guy can have all the power, and that governments should, no, need, to be scared of us. Otherwise, what the hell is the point? I am also a big fan of The Wicker Man, not the remake, which I have yet to see, but the original with Edward Woodwood. I also like 28 Days Later, and, to a somewhat lesser extent, 28 Weeks Later. I like 28 Days Later because, although it is about a major problem, it still feels quite small and closed in. it focuses completely on just a few people, and ignores everyone else.

It also brings me neatly onto the subject of books. For a long time, my favourite book was The Day of the Triffids. Again, I like it because although it deals with some big issues, it is set on a very small scale. For a long time, it was my favourite book, but it was knocked off its perch a while back by The Chrisalids, which, although being quite a short book, with a large subject, the opposite of what I normally like, captured me, and held my attention in a way that nothing has done so since. It is a strange book, when you look at the other work of the author, John Wyndham, a very strange book. Most of his books, whilst about large themes, focus on just a small area, whereas this book, whilst being quite short, is one of the biggest books that he ever wrote.
Ross Nobe, and ghis Hair
I am also a big fan of comedy. I would have to say that my favourite comedian at the moment is Ross Noble. I think that he is good because he is just so damn random and tangential. He is also dyslexic, like me, and left handed, like me. And he has cool hair, just look at this picture of him.

To return briefly to the screen, I am, or rather, would like to be, a massive fan of anime, but have been able to get into it. The one thing that I have managed to get into in a big way is Ghost in the Shell. I have seen all of the films, and both T.V. series. I think that the best is the second gig, but others may, and frequently do, disagree with me. One thing that does confuse me slightly is that in the films, Motoko has purple hair, whereas in the Stand Alone Complex, she has blue hair. I think that I prefer her with blue hair. At the time of writing, I own the complete second gig boxset, and Solid State Society. I plan to eventually to get the first two films, and the first Gig. I

My favourite GITS character is Batou. I like him because I can empathise with him. He is strong, and most of the time seems to be In a bad mood, but is capable of showing great emotion. I think that because he spends so much of the time in a huff, those times when he is happy are really important. That is why I like this picture of him, it id rare to see a smile on his face.
I also like the way that he interacts with the tachcomas, and, in Innocence, his dog. He spends a lot of the time dealing with his inability to express his emotions, and this causes him to be unhappy, but he does care about the people that he works with, and it is obvious that he has feelings for Motoko, even if he does not know what they are.
how can you not love Batou? look at him, he just oozes cool! His ponytail also looks really cool, especially in a scene, where he is hanging upside down, and it hangs behind his head, like dome sort of Dipsey-esque aerial.

It might be a good idea at this point for me to say something along the lines of “if you are still reading this, then thank you”, but that would be both stupid and a waste of time. Of course you are still reading this, so why bother asking? But I will thank you for doing so.

I am currently studying archaeology at the University of Winchester, spending my time digging up dead lepers, which is fun, and writing stuff like this, which, while not exactly fun, is still more interesting than getting on with my coursework, which is not interesting. People tend to be a bit disturbed when I tell them that I dig up dead lepers, it’s almost as if they are scared that I might give them leprosy. But It’s ok, because lepers are ‘armless (buh-duhm-chaa!). They also appear to be drunk a lot of the time, well, at any rate, they spend a lot of time legless (buh-duhm-chaa!).

I really have no idea why I am studying archaeology. I would love to be a writer, but the problem is that I am not very good at writing. I may be better than a lot of people, but there are also a lot of people better than me. Two people who are better than most, including me, at writing, are the late Douglass Addams ( I would say God rest his soul, but for the fact that, like me, he was a committed atheist. If he found himself in heaven, then I love to think that he would spend his time trying to prove to god that that he (god), did not exist.), and Terry Pratchett, whose discworld books, especially that later ones, I love.

As I have said, I am an atheist. I went to church as a child, but as I grew up, I began to have doubts. I “came out” as an atheist after reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I love that book; it was the first time that I realised that it was ok to not believe in god. It is not that I have anything against the idea of a god, it is just that I have never seen any evidence to prove to me that he does exist. I do have a problem with organised religion, but that is another matter. One of the reasons why I love The God Delusion is because of the dedication at the beginning:

In Memoriam
Douglass Adams (1952-2001)
“Isn’t it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”

If that is not enough reason not to believe in a god, then I do not know what is. I might have to read the book again.

I have on my wall a poster of Che Guevara. I know that it is a bit of a cliché for a student, but I have a very real reason for it. I am not claming to believe in his political viewpoints, because I am not too sure what they were. But I do admire him for having the guts to stand up; fight; and even die for what he believed in. if it is any consolation, the poster is blue.

I would love to go on, but I am running out of things to say. This is not a normal thing for me, normally I only stop because I have run out of time, or people to talk too, but there you go.

Thank you.
