Righty-ho this is a hot topic of conversation on internet news groups everywhere, so here, as we are a reading group, i think we should get into this debate.
Main Points: Northern Lights, is the first book of a trilogy, called His Dark Materials, written by Phillip Pullman. It's being turned into a Big Movie Much of the book has been altered, to make it more "Child friendly" and suitable for younger audiences, as the series is actually a childrens book. There are very stron, very obvious anti-religious undercurrents running throughout the series, and towards the end of the the third book, a character who is supposed to be God, dies. The auther is known to be a pro-aethiest
any comments are vallied, but I WILL PERSONALLY DELETE inappropriate or stupid comments comments
I want this to be a structured, reasoned and polite debate, not to descend into a spamming or slagging match.

Indeed, Jeff, but some of us also know that this is not all because of you, as the Wetpaint judgement algorithms show.
The highest I have ever got is 348, and that was with a wiki so old is was about why Windows ME is good. I think I was somewhere in the first 10,000 wikis made.

Overestimate my skill. I do not overestimate my skill! I merely shared something with a fellow user of this wiki, is all! A perfectly harmless process, if you ask me. And never would I consider joining a cult. And align myself with anonymity? Why would I do that?

5000 years in the future. Cities roam the ruined earth in search of smaller cities to eat. Computers have become known as Old-Tech, after making was unable to deal with the revolutions of technology... As London steams across the hunting ground, a sinister plot unfolds. Tom Natsworthy is aboard London, and is a mere third-class apprentice, spending his days inside museums dusting the artefacts. Then comes the rumble. A rumble which strikes his insticts and lifts his heart. He runs to the nearest viewing deck, and joins the feelings of awe that is alive like a flame in the crowds of spectators around him. And his instincts are proved right: London is on the tail of a smaller Traction City. Soon enough, Tom winds up in the gut, and does not look forward to having to dismantle a whole city. He wonders which first-class apprentice will be in charge. He dreams one day of meeting his hero, Thaddeus Valentine, and as fate would have it, his dream comes true.. unfortunately for him.
Discoveries of great truths launches Tom, and new found friend, Hester Shaw, on a journey like no other, surviving the great Hunting Grounds, escaping from imprisonment, outwitting a furious Stalker and unravelling the truth of Valentine... Read Mortal Engines, book number one in an eight part series, to kill your 'what happens next' tenseness... available in all good bookstores near you!

Thanks Jeff for telling me about this book.
I haven't had much time to sit and read it and i may not finsh it in time but i'm trying. From what i have gotten a feel for so far in this book i like. The way it's worded is just super and it's so bad, it's just awesome.
Good read to anyone i say.

"Mo, if you ever came to Portsmouth you may get freaked out. I just checked where the house you live in on GoogleMaps, and all I saw were trees, and I think it was a lake over to one side. I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled round the place, but all I saw were trees... looks peaceful. I enjoy Portsmouth because of the Libraries, a lot of persons are friendly here, and there are loads and loads of walls and other areas to jump suicidally from. Overall, brilliant." PS2 was win, then Microsoft muscled in, Halo was born and.....yeah....
The PS3 is the superior piece of tech, but this, as Yahtzee said, "puts the games several months and millions of dollars on the far side of comfortable". The only thing I can see in it is a Blu-ray player.
